Projects > Marine > Northern NSW Harbour Dredging & Dewatering

February, 2017

Situation:

The main boat harbour needed to be dredged owing to contamination with high concentrations of Tributyltin (TBT). It was essential that the material was properly managed in line with the environmental requirements. In addition the initial dredging, lime treatment was also required as an integral part of the treatment process in the Acid Sulphate Soil Management Plan .

Our Approach:

Dredging Solutions dredged and dewatered 20,000 m³ of Potential Acid Sulphate Soils (PASS) sediment containing TBT from the designated area within Ballina Boat Harbour. Considering the scale of the project and the additional treatment required, CRS Envitubes® were utilised for cost-effective removal of the sediment.

Result:

Once dewatered to the desired moisture level, Dredging Solutions removed the sediments from site and transported to an appropriately licenced facility for disposal. The site was subsequently rehabilitated with the establishment of grass cover.
